Poem About My Day, #sol17 Day 5

Just keep working…

Just stay focused and finish…

Why do I have to give tests?

I’d rather be slicing my life.

I’d rather be posting my students’ slices,

Which is what I keep sneaking away to do.

Procrastinating this:

“Writing” tests with compound predicates,

compound subjects, compound sentences.

Tests don’t help my students write better.

The Slice of Life does, thankfully…http://krebs.edublogs.org/

  1. definitely! ❤ the image of sneaking away to slice and the very clear message about a major why of procrastination.

  2. Amen!

So excited that your students have this to add to their writing journeys – and which are they going to remember? Testing or speaking their minds? I cannot wait to introduce slicing to my seventh graders this week.

  3. Thanks for the Slice of Life/Parte de la vida connection! I am now seriously thinking on doing a blog with my first graders to promote translanguaging 🙂

  4. I love that imagine of you and your class sneaking out to the local library, finding that comfy place, and just writing. That just might be a slice itself! 🙂

Thanks for sharing this great slice with us!

And I’m glad to see you back writing too! 🙂

  5. Yup- struggling with the must do list when you really want the can do (and better for you) list is hard! I keep writing about procrastinating too! You are right, the real “test” is in the real writing.

  6. It’s so true. Writing teaches us about: reading, grammar, vocabulary, critical thinking, and so much more!

  7. Thank you, all, for reading and joining me and encouraging me in this procrastinating journey! I hope I can keep it up. I keep getting deeper in the hole each day.

    Denise
