The unanimous Declaration
of the fifty United States of America
and the five U.S. territories,
When in the Course of human events,
it becomes necessary for one people

We hold these truths to be self-evident,

  1. “Recommence.” I love it.

    I have a question, Denise. If/when you come back to the United States, if you were still going to teach, would you say the Pledge of Allegiance aloud? I’m wondering about pledging support to a flag and I’m wondering about that last part – “with liberty and justice for all.” It sounds like empty promises.

    1. Wow, such a great question, Joy. I’m not such I’ll be teaching when I come back, but I would definitely not say the flag salute again. I would tell my students why. I spent some time on your Live Binder this morning looking at teaching resources, so maybe I will get to practice again in the classroom. I hope that I would also be brave enough to kneel for the national anthem. I wanted to when I was at a baseball game a couple summers ago, but I wasn’t brave. I need to be both impeccable in my word and actions.
