A Triolet

This triolet is inspired by Buffy Silverman, who wrote one about the periodic cicadas for Poetry Friday. A triolet is an eight-line poem with ABaAabAB pattern.

Help Going Deep

In order to become complete
I must be seen deep in the Truth
Fear and sorrow attempt to greet
In order to become complete
Appearance on the mercy seat
Rendering my past snafus soothed
In order to become complete
I must be seen deep in the Truth

  1. hello Kristine of the Triolet. I’m grabbed by the thought of “mercy seat.” Brava!

  2. Are you familiar with the enneagram? This poem (which is a brilliant use of form) reminds me of my Enneathought of the day which I get in my email inbox daily. “I must be seen deep in the Truth.”

    1. Thank you, Margaret. That is just a happy coincidence, I guess. I am vaguely familiar with enneagram, but I’ve never participated.

  3. Lovely use of the triolet form–and I’m happy to have inspired you to try it!

  4. This is lovely Denise! This looks like a challenging form that appears deceptively simple at first glance. Yet it rewards rereading and contemplation – a perfect form for your subject. Thanks for sharing this!

(oh the irony – my anti-spam word for this comment is sin loads!)

    1. Thank you, Elisabeth. Thank you so much for reading it once, and then rereading and contemplating–what a rewarding gift for me as the writer to know you did that. (That is funny: sin loads!)
