Spiritual Journey Thursday – Nurturing our Summer Souls

From a beautiful walk around a remote lake in Oregon
Flowers in Oregon
That was amazing sea bass on the grill
Walking the dogs in Seattle.
The night before we went to the hospital for my daughter to have her baby.

Summer started and the next morn
my very first grandchild was born.
It’s my first summer after teaching retirement–
now Grammy-school is where my time is spent.
What a wondrous gift from God–
This new child has me awed.

Thank you, Carol, for hosting Spiritual Journey Thursday this month.

  1. Denise, I love this play on words, “Grammy-school”! I know that sense of new-child awe so well. My new granddaughter is now nine months old – how is it possible?? Savor every precious moment. I have savored your photos and the joy emanating from your post today!

  2. Congratulations on your new grandchild, and your retirement. I am deep into both of these modes, my oldest grand is 15 now! How I love all 4 of mine… they are such blessings. Thank you for your beautiful photos and awe-stricken poem! Enjoy…

  3. Denise, I offer a quick write as gratitude for nurturing of my summer soul with peaceful thoughts.

the sweet taste of cold ice cream
the beckoning earth dazzled in color
the coo of a little newborn
    all signposts that spiritual gifts
    for summer souls are never-ending
    Carol, summer 2022

  4. Congratulations on the new grandchild! Such a blessing. I’m expecting my 4th in December.

  5. How wonderful! Oh, I’m so happy for you. And, the smiles on those faces–precious. By now you’ve held your grandchild and are well into Granny-school. I hear it’s just the best…and I imagine a perfect transition from teaching classes to teaching the next generation. Enjoy every precious moment.

  6. Congratulations on your transition from grammar school to Grammy school! Your summer does indeed look soul-filling; nothing better than the smell of a newborn baby’s head as they sleep in your arms.

  7. Congratulations, Denise. What a wonderful retirement present. Teaching never stops just shifts.

  8. We’re enjoying an anniversary getaway with our two kids and spouses and six grands! I love being a grandma. I can tell that you will too. Looks like you were in my part of the world. You’ll have to let me know the next time you’re in the Seattle area. Congrats, new Grammy, on this wonderful threshold that promises so much joy.
