There once was a rainbow minty way
to make special treats for midday
the luck of the Irish
will come right beside us
on this colorful and fine holiday
Today at Ethical ELA, we wrote poems inspired by “mondegreen”, which is “a series of words that result from the mishearing or misinterpretation of a statement or song lyric.” Mondegreen is a new word for me, and I realize how often I experience it. (Do come and share your poem about mondegreen or anything else about some song lyrics you’d like to share.)
Here is my found poem from the article “Lyrics to 60 Famously Misunderstood Songs” How many lines can you sing along to?
Mondegreen
Hold me closer Tony Danza
We built this city on sausage rolls
There’s a wino down the road
Give me the Beach Boys and free my soul
The ants are my friends, they’re blowing in the wind
Wrapped up like a douche another lover in the night
I can see clearly now, Lorraine is gone
Saving his life from this warm sausage tea
This is the dawning of the Age of Asparagus
I remove umbilicals
