March 29 – 7:56-8:27 p.m. California

29 March 2025 TwoWritingTeachers.org

This time of the evening, we often watch two episodes of our latest show. That show is usually an old series we watch through before we choose another. We’ve watched all the episodes of Monk and S.W.A.T., and now we are watching Person of Interest.

Often I can relax and enjoy one-and-a-half hours of TV, but not in March. I find it difficult to only watch. I am usually busy reading and commenting on posts, writing my post for the next day, or, like tonight, studying Duolingo lessons for the day. Keith watches our show; I barely take notice of it. Here I am doing Spanish, while hubby was in the kitchen. (After he took the photo of me, I mean.)

Another common part of this slice of my day is to have a cup of herb tea.

I didn’t make any mistakes tonight in all four of the lessons I did in Duolingo. That is really unusual for me!

I’m hanging in in the Diamond Tournament this week.

By the way, the Diamondbacks beat the Cubs 8-1 tonight.

Slice of Life – Spanish for Breakfast

October 31, 2023 TwoWritingTeachers.org

Last week we found this quaint little coffee shop/restaurant in Palm Desert, D’Coffee Bouteaque. It has a healthy and interesting menu, an amazing selection of coffee and tea drinks, and homey, eclectic decor. Everything is served on a variety of china dishes. We had a sweet server who we really made a connection with, and we knew he would be there today when we were going to be back in town for an appointment. So during the week, I made a plan to speak to our waiter, M, in Spanish this time. I had to look up a few words that I didn’t know because, as I told M, “Por favor, ¿Podemos hablar in español hoy porque quiero mostrar a mi esposo que puedo hacerlo? He was such a good sport, and it was a success. I ordered a chai latte with leche de avena and agave en el lado. He helped me with one of the many mistakes I made, but I forget it already. I think it was at the end of  the sentence above about how to say, “I could do it.”

Anyway, I felt like I am on my way to the next stage of learning Spanish. I will definitely feel more confident next time.

Now, because we have no trick-or-treaters in our rural area, I’m sitting writing this and eating the M&Ms I bought (just in case).

Burrito de desayuno
Una rebanada de tostada con hummus y la aguacate
M brought this over to us with four stamps from this visit and last week’s
The decor is an eyeful everywhere you look!

March 24 – ¡Genial!

March 24, 2023 TwoWritingTeachers.org

¡Vaya!
¡Genial!
Ahora hablo español.
Más o menos,
de todas formas.
Pero realmente
no puedo hablar español.
Puedo leer y escribir un poco.
Mucho más que antes.
Necesito aprender
en una clase,
para poder aprender mucho más.
Y necesito encontrar a una amiga para hablar en español.

Did I say what I tried to say? (I welcome any suggestions for improvement.)
Wow!
Cool!
Now I speak Spanish.
More or less,
anyway.
But I can’t really speak Spanish.
I can read and write a little.
Much more than before.
I need to learn
in a class,
so I can learn much more.
And I need to find a friend to talk to in Spanish.

I am participating in the March Slice of Life Challenge: A slice a day for all of March. Thank you, Two Writing Teachers!
